I Asked

I am one of those left brained gals who loves charts and graphs. I got to thinking about my prayer life and wondered what it might look like in chart form. Specifically, I wondered what I pray for most.

If I could review my prayer subjects, I’m sure the chart would reveal that I am pretty self-centered and like most folks I want to avoid pain, suffering and discomfort in any form or fashion.

Recently I found this anonymous poem and it sure speaks to the content of our dialogue with our heavenly Father. It is entitled, “I Asked…”

I asked God for strength that I might achieve, I was made weak that I might learn to humbly obey.

I asked for health that I might do greater things, I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy; I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of me, I was given weakness that I might feel the need for God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life, I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing I asked for but everything that I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am among all, most richly blessed.

blessed

This week is a great opportunity for all of God’s kids to remember that we are most richly blessed. In His wisdom, God does not always give us what we ask for, but rather He always provides everything we actually need.

Maybe making a chart of His faithfulness would be a better use of my time!
