A Commentary on Life
Every Monday, I write a “musing.” It is a brief commentary on life seen through the lens of the scriptures. The topics and observations reflect my wide area of interests. I might comment on sports or an historical event. I might reflect on parenting skills or muse about a biography I read. The themes will range from the mundane to the theologically important.

You Don’t Have to Hide Food Anymore
My pastor, Mike Erre told a story yesterday that bears repeating. Apparently he has a friend who adopted a little boy. During their first few months of adjusting to each other, the parents noticed that the little boy was hiding food all around his...
“I Hate My Job”
The New York Post recent ran an article about an alcoholic court stenographer that went rogue. Daniel Kochanski created havoc on some major court cases causing various judges to have "reconstruction hearings" where witnesses tried to remember what...
You Know You Are a Narniac When_
I am a huge C. S. Lewis fan. My first encounter was through Mere Christianity; and then I "chewed" my way through The Screwtape Letters, Miracles and all the others. I think the only works I have not read are his science fiction trilogy. But my...
Sanctification From a Vending Machine
We definitely live in a world of instant gratification. We expect our needs (and most of our wants) to be satisfied immediately. No more wanting for anything, including food choices. The microwave oven sure helped us along that path, but now there...
An Astronaut on Strike Had the Right Idea
The astronaut William Reid Pogue died recently. Born in Oklahoma, he served as an Air Force pilot during the Korean War and then joined the Apollo project in 1966. He was a member of the astronaut support crew for the Apollo 7, 11, and 14 missions....
Beacause I Said I Would
Garth Callaghan has been writing his daughter Emma notes on napkins for years. They are simple messages that just allow dad and daughter to have a connecting moment in the middle of the day. But Garth has been diagnosed with kidney cancer and he is...
A Woman Looks in the Mirror
I was rummaging through an old file and came across this note. Sure made me chuckle.... "Age 3: Looks at herself and sees a Queen! Age 8: Looks at herself and sees herself as Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. Age 15: Looks at herself and sees herself...
We Dance Till It Rains
According to the book The Traveler's Gift and a companion book by Andy Andrews called Mastering the Seven Decisions that Determine Personal Success, there are seven big time choices that you and I can make that will greatly impact the course of our...
Education Without Christ
A recent article from the magazine, Christian School Education caught my eye. I found myself cheering the author along as she discussed what it would be like if she lost the freedom of declaring the truths of God in her class...even for one day....
Motive For Doing Good
A week or two ago, a British woman began to publically bemoan the fact that she had given her ex-husband a kidney transplant. It seems that a few years after the operation, she suspicioned that he was unfaithful to her and they ended up divorced....
Hurdles Happen
It is definitely a fact of life that "hurdles happen." Life is a series of experiences, many wonderful, almost transcendent and some much different, almost impossible to bear. As the hurdles appear, it is important to recognize them for what they...
